FTE Fellowships for Master of Divinity Students
The Fund for Theological Education (FTE) offers a program called the Ministry Fellows Program that provides theological, academic, financial and networking support to promising first-year theological students as they engage in theological study and prepare for full-time ordained ministry. The fellowship requires a year-long commitment to attend two summer conferences, before and after the first year of theological school. Before beginning school in the fall, Ministry Fellows will attend the Summer Conference on Excellence in Ministry, which allows Fellows to engage some of North America's most distinguished theologians, pastors, and ecclesial leaders in an informal dialogue setting. Fellows will also return the following year to this conference. The following summer, Fellows will receive a stipend of up to $5,000 for self-designed projects in ministry that promise to enrich their theological education. Fellows also receive travel stipends for their participation in the summer conferences.Applications must be received by April 1, and must be coordinated with the theological school you'll be attending.
The Fund for Theological Education also offers the Congregational Fellows Program, a grant initiative that provides a dollar-for-dollar match to financial contributions made by a congregation toward the cost of a student's first year in seminary. To be considered for the Fellowship, a student must be nominated by a congregation in which he or she has been a member or active participant for at least one year. In order to nominate, a congregation must commit at least $4000 toward the cost of the student's first year in seminary. If selected as a Congregational Fellow, the student will receive an additional $4000 from FTE. In addition, FTE asks the Fellow's school of choice to augment the Fellowship with a full tuition grant. Please note: FTE cannot guarantee a full tuition grant from the school for the Fellowship. As in the Ministry Fellowship, Fellows attend a summer event prior to beginning school in the fall. At the Congregational Fellows Retreat students examine compelling images of congregation and pastor and explore their personal questions of ministry and vocation. The nomination deadline for the Congregational Fellowship is February 1.
