Theological Degrees?

Specialized Ministerial Degrees

Most schools offer degrees other than the M.Div. to prepare for ministry in specific areas of pastoral skills. These degrees often have fewer course requirements and take less time to complete. In some denominations and traditions, these degrees will suffice for credentialing purposes, though they don't offer the same comprehensive preparation as the M.Div. Some of these programs focus generally on "Christian Ministries," "Christian Leadership" and "Pastoral Ministry." Others are more focused on specific fields such as counseling, Christian/religious education, missions, spiritual formation, sacred music and liturgics/worship. Since these degrees generally develop out of a particular interest or commitment of each school, there is great variety in how they are named and structured. In general, these programs usually take two years to complete and are sometimes offered in a certificate format (with even fewer requirements).
