Undergraduates Exploring Ministry

Ministry Programs

Through its Ministry Programs FTE strives to identify, inspire and nurture outstanding undergraduates and seminary students from a variety of Christian denominations who are pursuing vocations in ministry and theological scholarship. Together with seminaries, churches, non-profit organizations, students, ministers and professors, the Ministry Programs encourage excellence and diversity in the next generation of leaders for the church.

The Ministry Programs also aim to revitalize the understanding of ministry by the public and in doing so, raise the profile of ministry and teaching as work that channels commitment, competence and compassion to serve the world and the common good. The program offers three kinds of fellowships:

  • Undergraduate Fellowships: for rising juniors or seniors nominated by college administrators, faculty and clergy. Nomination deadline: February 1. Application deadline: March 15
  • Congregational Fellowships: for students entering the first year of a Master of Divinity degree program. Nomination/application deadline: April 1
  • Ministry Fellowships: for students in the second year of a Master of Divinity degree program who have been nominated by their seminary dean or president. Nomination/application deadline: March 1
  • VEV Fellowships: for recent college graduates who have participated in one of 10 national faith-based volunteer programs through the Volunteers Exploring Ministry Initiative. Application deadline: April 1
The Summer Conference on Excellence in Ministry

This annual gathering brings together FTE Undergraduate, Congregational and Ministry Fellows with distinguished theologians, pastors and church leaders for several days of thoughtful exchange, including lectures, worship, forums, workshops, recreational activities and informal time together.

For many of the Fellows, whether they are college juniors and seniors or new seminarians, the experience affords them their first significant engagement with peers sharing similar commitments and asking similar questions. The conference fosters mentoring relationships as students explore ministry, service and the nature of Christian vocation. Fellows leave the conference with new tools for understanding their particular gifts in the context of the world's need.

The 2008 FTE Conference on Excellence in Ministry will be held June 11 - 15, 2008 at Candler School of Theology, Emory University, in Atlanta, GA.
