Calling Congregations

FTE believes that embodying the voice of invitation to ministry is the work of the whole congregation. There are habits and practices in the life and work of a congregation that can inspire vocational exploration, cultivate responsiveness to God's call in all its many forms and nurture the next generation of pastors for the church.

To encourage this work, FTE matches individual congregations with coaches—pastors and other leaders who can help congregations envision and implement these habits and practices. FTE provides support for a short-term consultation between the coach and the congregation-funding that includes the coach's stipend, travel expenses and related costs.

Peer coaching is available to any congregation that is interested. However, FTE strongly recommends that a congregation have a committee, task force or leadership team dedicated to guiding the congregation's ministry of nurturing Christian vocation and the call to ministry. This may be an established committee or a group convened specifically for working with the peer coach.

For additional information on peer coaching, read Peer Coaching-Information for Congregations or contact Kevin Spears, Regional Director of the Calling Congregations Program.
